RUDIMENTS | HARMONY | HISTORY | RECORDER GROUP

Rudiments Classes

Rudiments courses are taught in preparation for the spring session of Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Examinations. Regular homework assignments, review tests and practice examinations enable students to become familiar with the material and examination questions as well as enriching their vocal/instrumental music education. Classes are held for 27 weeks. Students/parents are responsible for the cost of course materials and RCM examination fees.

Instructor: Shelley Hanson Terry | Semi-Private: 2 students, 45 minutes | Class: 3-6 students, 1 hour

Basic:

This course covers music notation, time values, major and minor key signatures, accidentals, simple time, intervals, chords, transposition at the octave, finding the key of a melody, and musical terms and signs.

Co-requisite: Grade 5 Practical Examination | Day/Time: Saturdays beginning September 8, 2012 from 11-12 am | Course Fee: $526.50

Intermediate:

Major/minor scales, accidentals, pentatonic, chromatic, blues and octatonic scales, compound time, intervals, chords, cadences, transposition, musical terms and signs.

Recommended Pre-requisite: Basic Rudiments or placement test. | Co-requisite: Grade 6 Practical Examination Day/Time: Mondays beginning September 10, 2012 from 5:30-6:30 pm | Course Fee: $540

Advanced:

Modes, scales, clefs, score types, hybrid meter time signatures, transposition, intervals, chords, musical terms and signs.

Recommended Pre-requisite: Intermediate Rudiments or placement test. | Co-requisite: Grades 7-10 Practical Examinations | Day/Time: Saturdays beginning September 8, 2012 from 10-11 am | Course Fee: $567

Harmony Class

The harmony class is structured to prepare students for the spring session of Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Examinations. Regular homework assignments, review tests and practice examinations enable students to become familiar with the material and examination questions as well as enriching their vocal/instrumental music education. Classes are held for 27 weeks. Students/parents are responsible for the cost of course materials and RCM examination fees.

Instructor: Martin Anderle | Semi-Private: 2 students, 45 minutes | Class: 3-4 students, 1 hour

Basic Harmony:

This course covers chords, pedal points, sequences, modulation, non-chord notes, form, melody writing, four part harmonization with a given melody and given chord symbols as well as harmonic and structural analysis.

History Class

The history class is structured to prepare students for the spring session of Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Examinations. History 1- An Overview

This course is an introduction to music history through an overview of four historical style periods: The Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern eras. Students will learn about the representative composers and their works as well as general terms that apply to the music of each era.

Recommended Pre-requisite: Advanced Rudiments | Pre-requisite: Teachers and Performers ARCT | Co-requisite: Grades 9 & 10 Practical Examinations and Elementary Piano Pedagogy | Day/Time: TBA | Course Fee: $594

Recorder Group

Students learn the essential fundamentals of music, breathing, rhythm, hand-eye coordination and more in a group setting. They will be introduced to music reading. Recorder is an excellent foundation to other wind instruments. No previous musical experience necessary. Students/parents are responsible for the cost of the recorder and course materials
